O2 is the only operator to offer a simple, single browsing pricing plan with one price for both Pay Monthly and Pay & Go customers.
When it comes to understanding the costs of using i-mode, O2 have made things easy.
It's the same price whether you're a Pay Monthly or Pay & Go customer and it's the same price whether you access sites on the official i-mode portal or go 'off portal' (that's visiting any URL not found on the main menu of the i-mode page).
Basically, with O2 you're charged per page you look at, not per minute spent browsing.
Each page costs between 1p-5p, depending on the number of images it contains. Browsing and downloading is charged at £3 per megabyte (a megabyte being equal to roughly 250 pages).
If you're still slightly confused, these real examples with costs should help you to get your head around it:
If you're new to i-mode, you can get your first month's browsing and downloading free (maximum 5 megabytes, normally £3 per megabyte). Terms & Conditions apply.
You can save more than 50% on i-mode browsing by buying in bulk and adding an O2 Browse and Download Bolt On to your tariff. You can even choose between regular or heavy data use, depending on what kind of i-mode user you are. For more information, click here.
From 31st March 2008, i-mail and i-MMS will also be included in standard Browse and Download Bolt On's.
i-mail is just e-mail on your mobile. You can write as much as you like because, unlike a text, there's no limit to the length of the message.
You can send an i-mail to up to 5 people and only be charged for one message. You can also attach an image (i-MMS). Both i-mail and i-MMS are free until 31st March 2008.
After that, any i-mail/i-MMS up to 2kb (approximately 500 characters of text, without an attachment) will cost the same price as a standard SMS on your particular tariff.
And any i-mail/i-MMS larger than 2kb (with an attachment, or more than approximately 500 characters of text) will cost the same price as a standard MMS on your particular tariff.
